Firing day

The kiln takes ten hours to reach 1,240 degrees, and a full day to cool. Tom checks it every hour and Maya pretends not to.

What we are hoping for is boring: even colour, no cracks, glazes that did what they did in the test tiles. What we usually get is boring plus one surprise, and the surprise ends up in the seconds box.

Next firing: the first week of next month. The Tall Vase is in it.
